Free Curly Cuts

for Kids 2026

A Successful

4 Events

The Promethean Hair Lounge launched its very first Free Curly Cuts for Kids event in February 2024, welcoming 25 children into the salon for their own personal spa day. With the help of eight volunteer stylists experienced in both curly hair and working with youth, each child received a custom dry curly cut tailored to their unique coils and style preferences. Families enjoyed snacks and drinks, kids learned styling tips through a fun video lesson, and the day ended with a mini photoshoot — each child leaving with confidence and joy.

We brought the program back just in time for back-to-school in August 2024, and again in February 2025, bringing our total to over 130 youth served. Most recently, on August 18, 2025, we hosted our fourth event and were able to care for 53 more amazing kids. Each event grows in impact, and we’re so excited to continue this tradition — with our next event planned for February 2026.

Increasing Our Impact

OUR ASK

As we plan for our fifth event of this successful program, we’re looking for strategic partners and sponsors to not only increase our impact, but to help sustain this important community offering for years to come. We think this program can be strengthened by

  1. Connecting it to an existing youth program that can benefit from these services vs. public recruiting.

  2. Securing sponsors to compensate our participating stylists and cover all the costs of the event to keep this free to the kids long term.

Why is a program like this, so important?

At Promethean Hair Lounge, we believe in embracing and celebrating natural curls. A program like this  provides our community’s youth the confidence that comes with a great haircut. We believe deeply in equipping youth with the knowledge and skills to take care of their natural hair texture. We are committed to sharing our expertise so that curl specialty is more accessible. This initiative builds on the success of previous events, where we have seen the positive impact firsthand. A caregiver expressed their appreciation, saying:

"My niece refused to let me braid her hair, she was a whole new little girl with confidence in her appearance. I think it was not only the cut but also being in an environment where there were other kids with hair like hers.”
